SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
WORDS & ART / ART & WORDS: Nutshell is a living, ever evolving project, and as such it might change its face and content quite freely, and without notice. We started off with unrelated poetry, short story and visual arts submissions, then we decided to ask our artists to submit work inspired by one of our selected poems or stories. Now we would also like to see the opposite happen: if we like the style of a writer but we think the subject of their submission is not for us, we might ask them to write something inspired by our artwork.
COLOUR VS. B & W: Nutshell is printed in black and white whereas the Nutshell blog is in colour. Please specify in the subject of your email which you are submitting to. Also remember we have a very colourful cover, so you can always submit a suggestion for that.
ARTICLES, FEATURES, COLUMNS, REVIEWS… all of these go in the blog. Our doors are always open to contributions of this kind, just make sure you write BLOG in the subject.
THEME: we don’t have one. Does the New Yorker fiction/poetry section have a theme? No, and neither does Nutshell. [Mmuah- ah- ha!]
POETRY & SHORT STORIES: keep ‘em coming. Any subject, any style. Perhaps the only thing to consider is that we might not be able to publish very long submissions. Therefore keeping poems one or two pages long and stories down to seven pages might be a good idea.
UNCERTAIN POETS, we are not your tutors: sending us a selection of poems to choose from and to give us an idea of your style is fair; sending us all your work from birth until now in 60 email instalments of 10 pieces each is not, and you know it. (You know who you are, naughties!)
NOVELS, EXTRACTS FROM NOVELS.. we don’t publish them. Never have, sorry.
GRAPHIC DESIGNERS, we need a new one for each issue so send us a link to your portfolio and a bit about your idea and we’ll get back to you.
Please send your writings in the body of the email to: editorial@nutshellmagazine.com
images should be sent as small .jpg attachments
